Character history:

Evey had a fairly normal childhood, in the beginning. This changed when her older brother died, a victim of the St Mary’s virus. After this event, her parents became increasingly involved in protests against the government and eventually were arrested and imprisoned. Evey never saw them again, and she was sent to a reclamation camp, where she was “re-educated” until she could become a productive member of this new society.

She became just this, and eventually ended up working for the BTN, the main television station in London. This changed when a chance encounter brought her into contact with V, a man who wished to make the people of London rise up against the tyrannical rule of the High Chancellor. After V saved Evey from being raped by two Fingermen, she became increasingly tied to V, not always willingly. When she pepper sprayed a police officer to help V, he was forced to bring her to his Shadow Gallery, where she was to stay for the next year, until his mission was done. In her quest to escape, Evey tells V that she will help him murder a priest, but during the attack she flees to the home of her boss, Gordon Deitrich, a place where she finally felt somewhat safe again.

However, after airing a comedy show which targeted the High Chancellor, Gordon’s house was raided and he was eventually executed. During the raid, Evey fled from the house, but was caught in the attempt. She was then put into prison, where she faced constant interrogation and torture. Throughout it all, she refused to give in and reveal any information concerning V. While in her cell, Evey discovered a note written on toilet paper, detailing the life of a fellow prison, Valerie. Evey took great strength from reading Valerie’s story and eventually, when faced with giving in or dying, she chose death.

It was then that Evey discovered her captor was not the government, but V himself. While she was at first furious with him, she was able to recognize that he had helped her realize that there were more important things in this world than just living.

Evey left V again, but this time she was able to find a new place in society, using a fake ID to avoid detection. She did come visit him again, on the night of November 4th. He died in her arms, as both professed their love for each other. Evey then granted V his final wish and was the one to send the train filled with explosives – and carrying V’s body – on its journey to destroy the Parliament Buildings.

Character personality:

Evey was once a very fearful woman. She had seen the world get progressively worse and saw no way to change it for the better. She also had lost all of her family to the corruption (though she did not know the truth behind the St Mary’s virus) and thus feared facing similar punishment herself. She did however always have a slightly subversive streak in her. Her parents instilled in her a love of the arts – where writers used lies to tell the truth, in comparison to politicians who used them to cover the truth up. And she did recognize that something was wrong with England, something she saw at work when news stories were fabricated.

It wasn’t until meeting V that she finally found the courage to act. After her imprisonment, Evey emerged a changed woman, who knew that her integrity meant something and that even one person did have the power to change the world – for better or worse. She became a much more controlled and even cold person, though her emotions do still hold sway over her.

Where once she would have gone along with everyone else and said yes to anything the government demands of her, Evey now has the strength to say no.

Physical description:

Evey is slightly below average height and has a very wiry frame. The most striking feature about her is her head, as her hair was shaved off during her imprisonment. She has brown eyes and brown hair, even though there isn’t much of it.
